Carnegie Foundation for Lifesavers
The foundation honors courageous heroes who venture into dangerous situations to save lives. While outstanding achievements in everyday life are not awarded, individuals who demonstrate exceptional civic courage also receive support here.
In addition, the foundation also provides financial assistance to rescuers or their families in emergencies. Heroic rescue operations, such as those in mining disasters, are relatively rare in Switzerland; they frequently involve water rescues (40%), road traffic operations (30%), or firefighting operations (20%).
The foundation offers both one-time and recurring support, ensuring that approved pensions are not reduced. Furthermore, surpluses from investment income can be used to provide relief in the event of natural disasters.
